Miles, Like Miles Davis
They say life is much better with a dog.
And how could it not be? With a tail that wags, a head that tilts, and a nose made just for booping there is nothing more comforting than having a pup of your own.
About a month ago I adopted our first dog from a local rescue here in Los Angeles, California. I had been thinking of adopting for quite a while and had been browsing available dogs for what seemed like months before finding the perfect match – Miles.
Miles is a 3-and-a-half-year-old standard poodle. Yes, you read that right – I adopted a poodle!
His story is a bit of a mystery, but from what we know he had quite a rough, neglected life. Miles lived on a farm where he was used to “backyard” breed several doodle puppies… a very lucrative business. Unfortunately, Miles’ owner died and he and his latest litter of puppies were left on the farm without much care.
When I met Miles, he was covered in ticks, filthy, and severely matted. He had no clue what toys were, had never had treats, and knew no commands. Still, I knew with a bit of TLC and lots of love, I could give him the great life he deserved.
Since adopting miles about 4 weeks ago, I’ve had to take him to the vet 8 times and give him several rounds of medications. From ear infections to tick treatments, neutering, and orchitis, this dog has truly been through hell and back. Still, I love him to bits and are so happy to have him in my life.
Adding a few photos of his transformation to gush over here:
